What Is A Dental Implant Restoration?

So you’ve received a dental implant to replace your missing tooth. At New Horizon Institute, our world-class dentists are specialized in implant restorations, a process in which an artificial tooth is affixed to your implant post. Implant restorations allow you to chew, speak, and smile just as you would with your natural tooth. Let’s take a deeper dive into restorations so you can be prepared for your upcoming appointments.

The Restorative Process After Dental Implants

Once the dental implant or implants are placed, you will begin the healing journey. At this time, your implant(s) will be integrating with your bone, which is a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration can take anywhere between 4-6 months for the implant(s) to fuse with your jawbone. Once this occurs, you will be ready for your follow-up appointment with your dentist.

You can think of this follow-up appointment as the second stage of your procedure. Your dentist will expose the implant post and place a healing abutment on top of your implant. Once your appointment is completed, you will be scheduled to come back a few weeks later to get an impression. This will be used to create your implant crown(s) or implant-assisted dentures.

Your next and final appointment will be the delivery of your implant crown(s) or implant-assisted dentures. At this appointment, your dentist will make sure your new artificial tooth is seated correctly in your mouth and that you are in love with your new smile.

Types of Restorations

At New Horizon Institute, we offer a variety of artificial restorative options, such as lab-made crowns, same-day crowns, and implant-assisted dentures. After completing a thorough comprehensive exam, your dentist will determine which restoration will best suit your needs. To craft your desired smile, your dentist will customize the restoration to match your desired tooth shade, size, and shape.
